The Bay Area Roadsters lost a great member and the world
lost a great human being on July 11, 2011 when Glen Dennee
passed away in his sleep.
Glen joined the Bay Area Roadsters in 2008 and was a joy to be
around. His humor, wisdom and warm disposition made it fun to
be in his company. He was generous to a fault and thoroughly
enjoyed his life and his family. Some of Glen's favorite pursuits
in life were auto racing, boating and fishing, along with wood
and metal working.
Glen was very involved in real estate investment and
development. He was also the proprieter of the Chez Yvonne
Restaurant. He belonged to many other clubs and associations
such as B.N.I., The Eliminators Club, SCTA and the Prowler Club
to name a few. As the owner of a Bonnieville Lakester and
with his daughter Michele as driver, the pair set 4 land speed
records.
Glen was very active in midget car racing in the 50's, 60's, and
early 70's, both as a car owner and driver. When he wasn't
driving, he enlisted some very famous names to race for him
such as Jim Hurtubise and A.J. Foyt. His cars raced at all the
major race tracks of the day such as Oakland, San Jose, Ascot,
Sacramento, Fresno, San Francisco and Reno. Didn't matter if
they were outdoor, indoor, paved, dirt or asphalt.
His personal car collection consisted of many early Fords,
street rods and hot rods, midgets, an indy roadster, a USAC
sprinter and his own Bonnieville race car.
The next time you look up at the sky and you see the clouds
swirling around, it's not the wind—what you're actually
seeing is the smoke off the tires of Glen's new heavenly
streamliner "Pearly Gates 1" going for a record!!
Goodbye and godspeed good friend, we'll miss you!!
Respectfully submitted,
The Bay Area Roadster Club.
